Kearney's Transfer Surprises Team| View Comments
Sophomore guard Brandan Kearney informed Coach Izzo earlier this week that he is leaving the Spartan program, much to the surprise of Izzo and his former Michigan State teammates.
Coach Izzo informed the media of Kearney's decision after MSU's Friday morning practice, citing Brandan's desire for a greater role within whatever team he joins.
Kearney contributed in each of MSU's 13 games this season, averaging 2.3 points and 1.5 rebounds in 16.9 minutes per game. He shot just 29.7 percent from the field (11-for-37) and 18.8 percent from long range (3-for-16).
Below is the official release from the University:
Statement from Tom Izzo:
“Brandan Kearney came back from Christmas break and informed me it was in his best interests to pursue other avenues in his basketball career at a place he can play a larger role. We wish him good luck in his future endeavors.”
Statement from Brandan Kearney:
“I’m thankful to Michigan State and the basketball program for the opportunity they gave me. I wish them the best of luck with the rest of their season. I wish my teammates – every single one of them – all the best as individuals and as a team. I just think it’s best for me to get a fresh start and play elsewhere.”
