Practice Update: 2/25/16

About 10 years ago, everyone in college basketball hated Duke guard J.J. Reddick because he was unstoppable from the 3-point line. Every time he got the ball and rose up, you knew the ball was going in. This season, Bryn Forbes, has hit Reddick status, both in shooting status, and probably hatred from other schools. I know Ohio State won't be sending Forbes any Christmas cards this year as he tore through the Buckeyes tonight. The 81-62 victory at Columbus puts the Spartans in fourth place in the Big Ten conference which is important to note because the top four teams will receive a double-bye in the Big Ten tournament. Michigan State will finish the season against Penn State, Rutgers, and Ohio State. If MSU can win those three games, then they will secure a double-bye. Let's take a look at the three players who shined in the win tonight.

THREE UP:

Bryn Forbes: 27 points, 7-10 from beyond the arc

THREE UP:

Deyonta Davis: six points, nine rebounds

Similiar to Eron Harris last game, Davis, gets a spot in our top three players because of his fantastic defense on Wisconsin player Nigel Hayes. Head coach Tom Izzo said that Davis has grew since MSU played Wisconsin, and it showed. Hayes shot 1-for-13 and finished with five points. Hayes is tough match-up for big men as he can play on the wing, but Davis went after him tonight and stepped up.

Denzel Valentine: 24 points, 10 assists, seven rebounds

It's tough to put a finger on what makes Valentine so special, every team has a player that can score and pass the ball, and rebound but it's hardly ever the same player that does all three. Valentine does, and his instincts are what have him in the national player of hte year conversations. Did you see his sweet dish to Matt Costello for the dunk?

Bryn Forbes: 17 points, four rebounds

It used to be that a scoring output from Forbes like 17 points would be a story for MSU, but we have grown so accustom to Forbes scoring like that every game, that it's a story when he doesn't score. Forbes continues to be the Robin, to Valentine's Batman and I wouldn't want any other duo with these guys.

Valentine's Day

Yes, I used this exact headline last year, and why shouldn't I use it again? Denzel Valentine hit the game-winning shot last year against Ohio State and this year he dropped 30 points, 13 assists […]
