Spartans in the NFL (Week 6)

Oct 15, 2012 SSN Staff | View Comments

Sunday night provided Keshawn Martin and Jerel Worthy an opportunity to show out in a prime time setting...and both took advantage.

During the week, Martin was named the primary kick and punt returner for the Texans by coach Gary Kubiak because the Texans were ranked last in punt return average and 16th in kick return yardage.

And in Martin's opportunity to shine against Green Bay last night, he returned his only punt of the night for 19 yards, while returning three kickoffs for 65 yards as well.

As a receiver, Keshawn had two more grabs. Both catches came in the same 3rd quarter Houston drive and resulted in first downs - the second of which, left the former Spartan about an inch shy of the goal line.

In total, Martin finished the day with 108 total yards of offense on six touches, an 18 yard average.

Meanwhile, on Green Bay's sideline, Jerel Worthy got the start at nose tackle in place of BJ Raji, who was out due to injury.

In the first quarter, Worthy had a key third down sack deep in Houston territory which helped set the tone for the game in Green Bay's favor. The sack was Worthy's 2nd of the season. It was also just the third time Houston quarterback Matt Schaub had been sacked this season.

In total, Jerel finished the game with 3 tackles, including the sack.

Overall, Sunday night proved to be a great night for a pair of former Spartan stars.
