Spartans in the NFL (Week 12)
| View Comments
Wide receiver Plaxico Burress returned to the NFL last week when Pittsburgh signed the former Spartan to fill in for the injured Antonio Brown.
Burress, as you may recall, played in the Steel City from 2000-04 where he rolled up 261 catches, for over 41-hundred yards and 22 touchdowns.
Plax played on Sunday and was targeted two times. However, he did not record a catch.
That wasn't the only Spartan splash the Steelers made last week when they signed Brian Hoyer as a backup for Charlie Batch. The 37-year old Batch played poorly in Pittsburgh's 20-14 loss on Sunday, throwing 3 interceptions. Batch is the third string QB and was pressed into action due to injuries to Ben Roethlisberger and Byron Leftwich.
Hoyer may be summoned to play this week if Roethlishberger is not ready to go. I imagine he may also be viewed as a long term option as the number two quarterback.
